St. George’s Liaison Meeting

On Friday the 13th of December Stephanie Henderson-Brown (Director RPFL), Malcolm Wood (St. George’s Land Director) and Sean Chappell (St. George’s Snr. Construction Manager) held one of their regular liaison meetings – the aim of which is for Regatta Point to raise any issues with the development next door and for St George’s to keep us abreast with progress.

The following are highlights of the meeting:

  • Groundwork on Block E, next to RP, will start on the 3rd of February and last up to 22 weeks and will require the temporary closure of the footpath at times.  Pile driving will cause vibrations, which are disturbing, but should not cause damage.
  • Co-ordination between StG and RPFL will be arranged via our surveyors in order to facilitate any work that is to be carried out on the Eastern wall of Regatta Point.
  • StG have proposed installing gates at either end of the public pathway along the Eastern wall that would be locked at night.  MW has discussed the proposal with Hounslow Council planning officer who broadly supports the idea (as do RPFL). StG to submit formal request.
  • Work on the boat club pontoon has been delayed due to the river conditions.
  • The Fullers pub will be now opening in May/June.
  • The organic butcher will be re-locating from Strand on the Green to a retail unit.
  • The plants that StG are paying for will be installed in the RP roadside planters on 19.12.13.
  • St G’s B3 development will be on sale in April and C1& C2 August. The duplex penthouse nearest to the river has been sold for just under £5 million pounds.
  • Meeting are to move to a quarterly basis.
  • Next meeting 08:30 on Friday 14th March 2014.

Brentford Football Stadium – approved at local level

As reported on the website www.brentfordtw8.com

Brentford FC’s new stadium and associated enabling development has been approved by Councillors after a four hour meeting with the vote being taken just before midnight.

The votes went largely along part lines with Conservative councillors other than Paul Jabbal voting against with all Labour councillors voting in favour giving a final vote of 9-5 for approval.

Lampton Road Conference Centre was packed as over 500 interested people gathered to watch the decision making process.

Brentford councillors had stood down recently from the Planning Committee so it was chaired by Councillor Tom Bruce from Bedfont ward.

Twenty minutes were given to each side to present their case. Brian Burgess, Brian Sawyer, Suzie Betlem, President of Brentford Chamber of Commerce and Steve Cowan, season ticket holder all spoke briefly, followed by Cliff Crown, Chairman of Brentford FC. The planning committee then grilled the speakers.

Representing the objectors were Denis Browne for the Brentford Community Council, Marie Rabouhans for West Chiswick and Gunnersbury Society, Robert Colvill and John Burrow for Strand on the Green and Martin Taylor from the Kew Society.

They were briefly questioned by the committee before the planning officer, Shane Baker summarised the application. After asking questions the councillors each briefly commented saying whether they were in favour or opposed before the official show of hands.

The application was approved to a round of applause and will now be referred to the Mayor of London and the Secretary of State.

Autobar House – work starts

After long delays Nottinghill Housing Trust has engaged a contractor to start work on Autobar House.  The contractor is Bugler Developments Limited and our primary contact is Mark Varley – their contracts manager.

Last week a trench was dug on the site as part of an archaeological survey.  Nothing of any note was found on the site so the development can now proceed.

Bugler staff have introduced themselves to Neil, our caretaker, by way of establishing day to day contact.  Stephanie Henderson-Brown has kindly volunteered to be the lead director representing the concerns of the freehold company and all residents.  Steph’s activities do not replace any formal interactions between the developers and residents with regard to demolition notices and party wall notices.

We have been told that over the next few weeks the existing building will be gutted on the inside before demolition proper starts.  Demolition is due to start before Christmas and is expected to take approximately 8 weeks to complete, with ground works and piling following.

Directors’ Update – with added mince pies

The directors of Regatta Point Freehold Limited would like to invite all residents and owners to attend a Directors’ Update meeting on the 10th December 2013 in the lobby at 8pm followed by a festive glass of wine and mince pies.

We hope that many residents will attend to discuss any concerns they have and to offer any feedback they can give the directors to improve life at Regatta Point.   We hope to see you there.
